More than 118 pre-loved teddy bears have been collected by Uckfield-based funeral directors Fuller and Scott and Cooper and Son to help vulnerable children.
An appeal for pre-loved teddy bears was launched at the beginning of January to celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day on January 18.
Now the toys will be sent to the UK’s leading children’s charity Barnardos.
Some of the pre-loved teddy bears collected for vulnerable children by Uckfield funeral directors Fuller and Scott, and Cooper and Son.
C.P.J. Field parent company of Fuller and Scott and Cooper and Son has a special connection with Winnie the Pooh as the company carried out the funeral service for the character’s creator A.A. Milne, 62 years ago.
This is the second year the appeal has been held and this time it was extended to run across all 38 C.P.J. Field branches in the south east of England.
Thanks to the generosity of local communities across the region the business has collected a total of 1,130 teddy bears for Barnodos services across the UK.
Paula O’Neill, community champion for the Fuller and Scott and Cooper and Sons branches, said: “We are hugely grateful to the people of Uckfield for supporting our Barnardos appeal.
“The generosity of the local community, and the number of teddy bears donated has been overwhelming. It’s a great time of year to run this appeal, as lots of families have surplus toys after the festive period.
“We hope these donations bring some much-needed joy to the lives of the children under the care of Barnardos, much like Winnie the Pooh has done for many generations.”
